If you’re planning a visit to the Obergurgl area, be sure to check out the highest mountain pass of the Eastern Alps– the Timmelsjoch High Mountain Road. At an altitude of 2500 meters, you’ll experience the absolutely stunning natural scenery of the Otztal Valley, including unprecedented views of the Alps, steep rocky slopes and mountain springs. Negotiate exhilarating bends while you take on the open road, whether you’re in your car, on your motorcycle or your mountain bike.
Due to the nature of the exposed high altitude terrain, the road is only open from the beginning of June until the end October. Opening times are from 7am until 8pm.
From the Timmelsjoch you can access several of the high altitude villages of the area, including:
- Moos, Stuls, Platt and Rabenstein
Stop at the Summit Tavern
Stop for a break on the sunny terrace of the Rasthaus Timmelsjoch, situated at the summit of the pass at an altitude of 2,509 metres. Here you can enjoy lunch or a refreshing drink during your journey.
