If you are planning on making Wiener Schnitzel, The Chalet at 11º East reccomends the following wine:
Morellino di Scansano Riserva, Italy
Wine Advocate – Scansano, Tuscany, Italy- ”A darker wine laced with
smoke, earthiness grilled herbs, black cherries and an array of darker
aromas and flavors… Make no mistake about it, this is a serious wine.“
Made from 100% Sangiovese grape, the local clone being known as
Morellino. The soil of Scansano is more acidic which gives a correspondingly
less acidic wine than Chianti. This wine is fruity and
un-oaked but has an intensity of flavours with touches of spiciness
And if Duck is taking your fancy, try:
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
Wine Spectator – Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy- ”This delicious red
bursts with juicy black cherry, raspberry, tobacco and mineral flavors.
This is harmonious and supple, despite its tannic structure. Plays for
intensity rather than sheer power.
This wine made from 90% Prugnolo grape (Sangiovese) includes
10% Merlot. It is rich and long on the palate with some spicy and
mineral notes, which are typical of this area. Smooth and soft tannins
indicate perfect ripeness.
