The team at The Chalet at 11º East were delighted to have their photos taken with Mikaela Shiffrin & Resi Stiegler whilst they were   training in Hochgurgl along with other members of the USA ski team who are preparing for the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup. The true test for the  U.S.  skiers is 35 days away, when the team travels to Sochi, Russia, to compete at the Winter Games. The men’s downhill is the first Alpine race of the Games, Feb. 9.

The U.S. team base themselves in Solden, but train in Hochgurgl the highest mountain range in Austria. Hochgurgl and Obergurgl are joined by a high speed gondola. Solden is just a short taxi ride away. The Chalet, at 11º East Obergurgl is in the perfect position to take advantage of skiing in all three centres, and provides luxurious accommodation for ten people in 5 beautiful ensuite rooms.

Shiffrin is the youngest American (man or woman) to win a World Cup title in any discipline and the first slalom champion since Tamara McKinney in 1983-84.
Fourth-youngest woman (all-time) to win the slalom globe and the sixth-youngest woman to win any World Cup title.
First non-European to win four World Cup slalom races in a season.
And if that’s not enough, she’s the youngest (man or woman) slalom World Champion in U.S. history.
Safe to say…her future is bright.  See: http://alpine.usskiteam.com/athletes/mikaela-shiffrin
